EPL: Brighton 0-0 Burnley

Marcos Alonso scored the only goal
Glenn Murray missed a penalty and Anthony Knockaert hit a post as Brighton were held to a goalless draw by Burnley.
The Seagulls have now failed to win any of their last seven Premier League games although they had enough chances against Sean Dyche’s side to clinch their fifth victory of the campaign.
Burnley were the more threatening team in the early stages and Lewis Dunk was forced to head Jeff Hendrick’s dangerous cross away for a corner.
Mat Ryan then had to keep Chris Wood’s header out as the visitors continued to press for the opening goal.
When the Seagulls finally got a foothold in the encounter, Dunk’s goalbound volley was blocked by team-mate Shane Duffy before Nick Pope saved Murray’s close-range header.
Chris Hughton’s team went close to taking the lead in the 22nd minute when Knockaert’s shot beat Pope, but came back into play off the woodwork, before Phil Bardsley cleared Dunk’s effort off the line.
As the match opened up, Johann Berg Gudmundsson saw an effort blocked, but Brighton wasted a glorious chance to score 10 minutes before half-time when Murray lashed his penalty over the bar after James Tarkowski was adjudged to have brought the veteran striker down.
At the start of the second half Clarets forward Wood’s weak shot was saved by Ryan while at the other end Murray could not quite connect with Knockaert’s cross.
Dale Stephens than cleared Tarkowski’s header off the line as both teams continued to create openings while Ryan somehow kept Scott Arfield’s two efforts out.
Burnley should have clinched all three points with 15 minutes left when Barnes sent Wood clear, but the New Zealand international’s attempted chip was gathered by Ryan and the game eventually petered out into a goalless draw.
