Ebbsfleet Goalie Gets Sent Off After 10 Seconds
Ebbsfleet United goalkeeper Preston Edwards is a living legend. Why? Well, he's one of the very few goalies in the world who can boast that they were sent off the pitch... after 10 seconds of play.
Playing in a Conference South match between Ebbsfleet and Farnborough, it all happened so quickly because of a truly appalling under-hit backpass from defender Ryan Blake which left Edwards stranded.
Farnborough's striker Kezie Ibe began running towards him, so Edwards leapt for the ball, only to knock into Ibe and get himself a red card.
Obviously furious, he storms off the pitch, removing his gloves and screaming to the sky. A replacement goalie comes on in his place and promptly fluffs the penalty awarded for Edwards' 'foul'.
Oh, and by 'replacement goalie' we actually mean18-year-old midfielder Tom Phipp – Ebbsfleet didn't have a back-up goalkeeper. So that's bad. Ending in a 3-0 defeat at the hands of a 11-man, goalkeeper-boasting Farnborough side, we're almost proud of Phipp for only letting two more in.
Truly, one of the weirdest pieces of football we've ever seen, and that includes these ludicrous celebrations, and this masterclass on how to not score when confronted with an open goal.
