Horse jumps from track into crowd

Some people say horse racing is the noble sport of kings, others claim it's tantamount to animal cruelty -- personally we're only normally interested if the names make for an amusing commentary.

But footage from a race in Australia recently grabbed our attention, because a riderless horse mistakenly jumped over an 8ft safety fence and landed in the middle of the crowd.

Banna Strand had been competing in the Grand Annual Steeple at Warrnambool Racing Club, but after unseating its rider, the horse decided to take an alternative route.

Proving that Regina the showjumping cow still has a thing or two to learn about getting off the ground, the wayward horse made easy work of an 8ft high brush safety fence at the side of the jump and leapt over it.

This meant it landed amongst unsuspecting spectators, who were all busy looking in the other direction and didn't know what was happening until the beast was on top of them.

Seven people were injured in the bizarre accident - with a two-year-old girl suffering a broken collar bone - and officials say they'll now review the height of safety fences at the race track.
