Champions League Round-up: Olympiacos game to determine Moyes' future
David Moyes faces an uphill task to reach the Champions League quarter-finals
David Moyes is facing a potentially decisive match in charge of Manchester United tonight; Inter are upping the ante in their chase of Fernando Torres; and a young Belgian starlet is keen on a move to Arsenal - here are the main stories making headlines in this morning's newspapers.
Moyes' future could be decided tonight: David Moyes has claimed he has no fear of the axe dropping, but failure to progress in the Champions League tonight could prompt an early end for the Manchester United manager, according to a report in The Times. Moyes was bullish in his pre-match press conference, but the report claims his position at Old Trafford "could come under immediate scrutiny" if United are eliminated by Olympiacos. "There are growing doubts within the club about whether his tenure should continue into a second season," the report adds. "From boardroom to dressing room, there is a profound sense of awkwardness and a pained acknowledgement that, barring a dramatic transformation over the next few days, let alone weeks, the Moyes regime is beginning to look moribund."
Inter target Torres: Inter Milan's sporting director Piero Ausilio was at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night to pursue his interest in Chelsea's Fernando Torres, reports the Daily Mail. The Spain striker, whose contract at Stamford Bridge has two years to run, is high on the Italian club's list of targets, despite his high wage demands. Nerazzurri boss Walter Mazzarri is also looking for a defensive midfielder, with Chelsea's John Obi Mikel an option.
Everton look to tie down Coleman: Everton manager Roberto Martinez is prepared to offer Seamus Coleman a lucrative new long-term contract to ward off the attentions of other clubs, the Daily Mirror reports. Manchester United, Arsenal and Manchester City have shown an interest in the Republic of Ireland international, but could be disappointed if a new deal is tabled at Goodison Park. Martinez also indicated improved terms would be offered to Ross Barkley, John Stones and even James McCarthy, who only joined the club last year.
Young Belgian talent wants Arsenal move: Michy Batshuayi has indicated he would prefer a move to Arsenal over Everton, after admitting he is likely to leave Standard Liege at the end of this season. The Daily Express reports that the 20-year-old striker, who in the Jupiler League's top scorer with 18 this season, has revealed the Emirates would be his desired destination due to their famed system of integrating young players into the first-team.
