TEAM NEWS
Denmark midfielder Christian Eriksen will return after recovering from a back injury. Tottenham will be without captain Michael Dawson though after he suffered a hamstring injury in Sunday's 4-0 defeat at Chelsea. Danny Rose (knee) could return while Mousa Dembele is in contention having been ruled out of the Chelsea game. Etienne Capoue (ankle), Erik Lamela and Vlad Chiriches (both back) all remain sidelined.
Serbia international Ljubomir Fejsa is expected to miss the game. The defensive midfielder has slotted into the role vacated by compatriot Nemanja Matic since his move to Chelsea. Ruben Amorim will deputise if Fejsa misses out while striker Oscar Cardozo could return to the starting XI after recovering from a back injury.
MANAGER QUOTES
Tim Sherwood: "Obviously the players are all very down about the result (against Chelsea), like all of us were, but that's the nature of this game and you have to bounce back. We're on to the next one – they come thick and fast – and a massive game against Benfica, one of the giants of European football. "We know how difficult it's going to be – this team got ten points and dropped out of the group stage of the Champions League. They're a top side and we appreciate that."
Jorge Jesus: "Benfica have a lot of responsibility when it comes to this kind of match. Both teams will play [to win] and we have to be responsible. I don't know what the Tottenham manager has said to his players. Success is always important. Benfica are a very significant club and have played in many important games in Europe."
