Premier League - Round-up: United set for £600m deal
Danny Welbeck and Wayne Rooney celebrate
Manchester United are set for an astonishing windfall; Tim Sherwood is kicking up a fuss about his fate; plus the rest of the day's stories.
United to land £600m kit deal: Manchester United are about to receive an unprecedented boost to their finances, according to the Daily Mail, which reports that the club is on the verge of agreeing a £600m, 10-year deal with Nike to be their kit supplier for the next decade. The deal is double that of the biggest-ever kit deal in sport to date: Real Madrid's £31m-a-year deal with Adidas.
Sherwood will refuse to work for Van Gaal: The Daily Telegraph (and just about every other paper) reports that Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood will walk away from White Hart Lane rather than work for Louis Van Gaal, the Dutch managerial legend who is widely expected to take the reins at the club after the World Cup. "Sherwood will reject any offer to work under Van Gaal or another new manager," the Telegraph reports, though the manager himself did hint that he might be keen on a job as technical director.
United to spend £30m on Southampton pair: The Daily Express reports that David Moyes will "step up" his efforts to sign Adam Lallana and Luke Shaw from the Saints. "Under-fire boss David Moyes has been promised an eye-watering transfer kitty to reshape his squad this summer, and according to reports the young England internationals are high on a list of Old Trafford targets," the paper claims, adding that Moyes wants both for £30m - some £10m short of Southampton's valuation.
Aguero will never be sold: Sergio Aguero "is not for sale at any price", according to the Manchester Evening News. "The 25-year-old has bagged 26 of his goals for the club in just 25 outings this term, despite having been sidelined on numerous occasions by injury," reports the paper. "And, while that form has led to the player being linked with both Barcelona and Real Madrid, [Manuel] Pellegrini is refusing to entertain the idea."
