FA Cup: Tottenham v Wycombe preview

Tottenham v Wycombe preview

Tottenham will be without top goalscorer Harry Kane for Saturday's FA Cup fourth-round clash with Wycombe.

The England striker is suffering from a minor groin problem but Spurs head coach Mauricio Pochettino is hopeful Kane will be fit for Tuesday's Premier League meeting with Sunderland.

Danny Rose (knee) is also missing, as are defensive duo Jan Vertonghen (ankle) and Toby Alderweireld (hamstring), while Erik Lamela (hip) is still out.

Wycombe's thoughts are on White Hart Lane and a "nothing to lose" match against high flying Tottenham.

Even with a weakened team, Spurs are strong favourites, but one whiff of complacency will be pounced upon by a Wycombe side that has already played six cup ties away from home this season and won them all.

Manager Gareth Ainsworth made six changes to his starting line-up in midweek with midfielder Sam Saunders handed his first start since returning on a permanent deal from Brentford.

Defenders Max Müller and Will De Havilland, midfielder Marcus Bean and wingers Garry Thompson and Myles Weston were all handed recalls to the side with defender Aaron Pierre, midfielder Sam Wood and striker Adebayo Akinfenwa all dropping to the bench.

Defender Anthony Stewart and striker Paul Hayes were both rested whilst midfielder Dominic Gape was cup-tied.  Striker Scott Kashket has been named on the bench for the last two games after recovering from a groin strain.

Defender Michael Harriman made a welcome return to the bench in midweek after recovering from a month out with a groin injury of his own. Ainsworth has no new concerns ahead of this weekend's clash with the Lilywhites and remains without the services of two players.

Striker Dayle Southwell hasn't played since mid-September following groin surgery whilst it's feared midfielder Matt Bloomfield could be out for a while after damaging his hamstring.

Midfielder Stephen McGinn has left the club after his contract was terminated by mutual consent earlier this week.
