EPL: Everton 2-1 Bournemouth

Oumar Niasse grabbed a second-half brace

Oumar Niasse grabbed a second-half brace as Everton came from behind to defeat Bournemouth 2-1 at Goodison Park.

The Toffees went into the game with the pressure beginning to mount on boss Ronald Koeman following three successive Premier League defeats in which they had failed to score a goal.

And, it appeared that the knives would be out for the Dutchman when Josh King put Bournemouth ahead early in the second half.

But Niasse, who was not in Koeman’s plans last season and was allowed to join Hull on loan in the second half of last term, stepped off the bench to replace Wayne Rooney and bagged two goals in the space of five minutes to turn the game on its head and seal a vital win for the Toffees.

The victory moves the hosts up to 13th on seven points, while the Cherries stay in 19th on three points.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin missed a good chance for Everton on six minutes when he headed wide in the middle of the area after getting on the end of a Leighton Baines cross from the left.

Neither side looked like breaking the deadlock following that early opportunity, while Simon Francis was fortunate not to see a red card on 35 minutes when his elbow on Rooney left the former England captain with a bloodied face and requiring treatment.

The remainder of the half was devoid of any chances and the players were greeted by a chorus of boos when the half-time whistle blew.

Bournemouth took the lead just four minutes into the second half when Charlie Daniels played the ball to King and he was allowed to get to the edge of the area before hitting a right-foot strike past Jordan Pickford.

On 51 minutes Jermain Defoe got a sight of goal but this time Pickford made the save to prevent the Toffees from going further behind.

Calvert-Lewin thought he had equalised on 75 minutes when he got a header on target but Andrew Surman managed to clear his effort off the line.

However, Niasse finally got the breakthrough two minutes later when he collected a Tom Davies ball into the area and fired past Asmir Begovic.

Five minutes later he completed the comeback with a close-range finish after Begovic had saved his initial header.

Everton almost grabbed a third on 87 minutes but Calvert-Lewin could only volley over the top when well placed in the area.
