EPL: Stoke City v Chelsea preview

Stoke City v Chelsea preview

Stoke boss Mark Hughes faces a defensive crisis when his side welcome Chelsea to the bet365 stadium on Saturday.

Summer signing Kevin Wimmer had been hoping to stake a claim for a regular starting place this weekend but a hamstring strain should see him miss the game.

Fellow centre-back Kurt Zouma is ineligible to play against his parent club, while both Geoff Cameron and Ryan Shawcross remained sidelined.

Chelsea coach Antonio Conte has been boosted by the news that forward Eden Hazard is ready to start his first league game of the season.

However, former Barcelona man Pedro is a doubt due to an ankle issue. Holding midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko should return after being involved in a minor car accident on Thursday, but David Luiz is suspended.

Stoke’s defensive problems may see them struggle to end their recent poor run against Chelsea.

The Potters have won only two of their last 18 Premier League matches against the Blues, with Chelsea winning 13 of them.

Hughes’ men go into the game with a poor recent record, having won just three of their last 16 Premier League matches.

Chelsea are looking to win their opening three away games in the Premier League for the first time since 2009 and the form of Alvaro Morata will be crucial to their chances.
