Northern Ireland manager Michael O’Neill has reportedly been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving.

The 48-year-old was detained by police just outside Edinburgh on Sunday according to the Scottish Sun.

Police Scotland said they arrested and charged a 48-year-old man in connection with drink-driving on the A720 at about 12.55pm on Sunday.

He is due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff’s Court on 10 October.

The court date is two days after Northern Ireland’s final World Cup qualifier match against Norway – they have already qualified for the play-offs for Russia 2018.

In a statement, the Irish Football Association (IFA) said it was “aware of an alleged drink-driving incident involving Michael O’Neill”.

The IFA added that it was a “police matter” and would make no further comment.

O’Neill led Northern Ireland to the last 16 of Euro 2016 and has been in charge of the team since 2012.
