EPL: Bournemouth 1-2 Burnley

Robbie Brady roars after doubling Burnley's lead

Goals from Chris Wood and Robbie Brady sealed Burnley a 2-1 win at Bournemouth to move them into the top six of the Premier League.

The Clarets only won once away throughout the entirety of last season, but they made it four already this term at the Vitality Stadium and ruined former boss Eddie Howe’s 40th birthday celebrations.

Wood put Sean Dyche’s side ahead in the first half, before Brady looked to have sealed a comfortable win midway through the second period.

However, Joshua King set up a nervous finale for the Clarets as he pulled one back 11 minutes from time.
But Burnley held on to move to sixth in the table on 25 points, while the Cherries drop to 15th spot 11 points further back.

Burnley had three quick corners and went close to going in front from the final one in the fourth minute when Ben Mee headed the ball back into the path of Wood who saw his header rattle off the top of the crossbar from six yards.

On six minutes Mee was back performing his defensive duties as he regained his composure after initially failing to deal with a throughball and took the ball away from Callum Wilson as he looked set to break clear on goal.

Wood went close again for the Clarets in the 15th minute when he got on the end of a Phil Bardsley cross and headed the ball downwards, forcing Asmir Begovic to react quickly and push his effort over the crossbar.

Ten minutes later Wood turned provider as he squared the ball to Jeff Hendrick just six yards out, but Steve Cook did well to block his attempt at goal.

Wood got the goal his and Burnley’s play deserved on 37 minutes when Brady’s cross from the left towards the back post was deflected into his path and he instinctively directed his effort past Begovic.

The visitors made it 2-0 on 65 minutes when Joey Berg Gudmundsson teed up Brady and he curled a right-foot effort beyond the dive of Begovic.

Burnley looked to shut up shop after the second goal with Bournemouth struggling to break down the visitors.

However they were given a lifeline on 79 minutes when Jermain Defoe miss-hit his effort at goal down the right of the area, but the ball rolled to King at the back post and he made no mistake from close range.

The Cherries piled the pressure on in the closing stages but they could not find an equaliser.
