EPL: Leicester City 2-1 Tottenham Hotspur

Jamie Vardy scores their first goal

Leicester City moved into the top half of the Premier League table with a 2-1 win at home to stuttering Tottenham.

The Foxes made two changes, with Ben Chilwell and Shinji Okazaki handed starts, while Spurs made four alterations, with Danny Rose, Serge Aurier, Mousa Dembele and Moussa Sissoko all starting.

The hosts made a bright start, pinning the visitors back into their own half, with Wilfred Ndidi testing Hugo Lloris with a low drive.

The recalled Rose was then in the right place to clear a Wes Morgan header from close to the goal-line following a corner, but the visitors were behind on 13 minutes.

Marc Albrighton played the ball into the area from the left flank and Jamie Vardy superbly lifted a right-footed volley up and over the stranded Hugo Lloris.

Home keeper Kasper Schmeichel ensured the lead stayed intact when he blocked a Moussa Sissoko shot, with Harry Maguire getting back to hack the loose ball away from the goal-line.

Schmeichel denied Dele Alli at the end of a quick counter-attack led by Christian Eriksen and City doubled their lead right on the stroke of half-time.

Riyad Mahrez was given time and space on the right and cut inside his marker before curling a left-foot shot into the far corner of the net.

Okazaki glanced a header over the top as the Foxes opened the second half well on top, while the visitors soon brought on Son Heung-Min to try and shake things up.

Striker Fernando Llorente also entered the fray as the visitors continued to try and find a way back into the game, with Eriksen miskicking hopelessly wide from just six yards out.

He was soon replaced by Erik Lamela, who instantly made his mark by playing in Kane to rifle a right-foot shot past Schmeichel to halve the deficit.

And Spurs should have been level when Serge Aurier flashed a cross to the far post, where Llorente somehow managed to divert the ball over the top from six yards out.

And that miss proved crucial as the hosts held out for the three points, with a late penalty appeal from Rose being denied.
