UCL: Basel 1-0 Manchester United

Michael Lang celebrates with his teammate
Basel kept their qualification hopes in good shape as they defeated Man United 1-0 at St Jakob Park.
The Swiss side had fallen to third spot after CSKA Moscow overcame Benfica earlier in the evening, but Michael Lang's late strike ensured Basel once again occupy second place with one game to go in Group A.
Defeat for Jose Mourinho's side meanwhile ensures they too are left needing to pick up a point at home to the Russians next month to qualify as group winners.
The Red Devils were the better side in the first half, with Anthony Martial impressing. The Frenchman curled a shot off the outside of the post – with Marouane Fellaini just failing to glance it on target, while Martial was also denied at the end of a swift breakaway by Tomas Vaclik in the Basel goal.
After the interval it was the home side that had the best of the action, their need becoming clearer. Mourinho threw Marcus Rashford, Nemanja Matic and Zlatan Ibrahimovic in from the bench, but it was Basel that were forcing matters.
Dimitri Oberlin got in behind the United defence midway through the half but, seemingly with only Andres Romero to beat, Marcus Rojo appeared from nowhere to intervene with a crucial last-gasp block. Serey Die also went close with a shot from distance, while Rashford fired into the side netting in a rare United threat.
Just as it looked as though a stalemate would ensue, Raoul Petretta galloped into the box from the left-hand channel in the final minute and his low cross went beyond everyone, allowing Lang to dart in behind Daley Blind and finish low to the net from close range as Basel completed a fine success.
