UCL: Borussia Dortmund 1-2 Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham came from behind to win 2-1 at Borussia Dortmund

Tottenham came from behind to win 2-1 at Borussia Dortmund to progress to the Champions League last-16 as Group H winners.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men had already guaranteed their place in the knockout stages, but knew a win at Signal Iduna Park would ensure Real Madrid would not be able to catch them.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang put the hosts ahead just after the half-hour, but Harry Kane equalised early in the second half and Heung Min-Son sealed the win 14 minutes from time.

Madrid won 6-0 at Apoel Nicosia but Spurs boast a three-point lead and better head-to-head record over the Spanish giants with one game to play.

Dortmund had the first real chance on 13 minutes when Andriy Yarmolenko created an opening on the edge of the area but failed to get sufficient power in the shot to trouble Hugo Lloris.

Aubameyang should have put Dortmund ahead in the 19th minute when he got on the end of Yarmolenko’s ball in behind the Spurs defence but fired wide with just Lloris to beat.

Spurs’ first decent chance came on 24 minutes when Serge Aurier’s ball into the middle picked out Son but he failed to hit the target from close range.

He was made to pay for that miss on 31 minutes when Aubameyang latched on to a Yarmolenko back-heel throughball and fired a low strike into the bottom corner past Lloris to put Dortmund ahead.

Spurs pressed for an equaliser and Christian Eriksen was denied on 38 minutes when Roman Burki got down to comfortably save his effort from distance, before the Dortmund keeper produced a better stop to deny the Dane two minutes later.

Eriksen then turned provider on 41 minutes with a corner which was met by the head of Eric Dier, but Burki managed to pull off a great save to prevent the ball dropping into the far corner.

Spurs were level on 49 minutes when Danny Rose won the ball and played in Dele Alli who picked out Kane on the area and he drilled a right-foot strike low into the net.

Neither side looked like adding to the scoreline until 76 minutes when Alli forced his way into the left side of the area and pulled the ball back to Son who coolly finished from 16 yards.

Dortmund pushed men forward in the closing stages in search of an equaliser, while substitute Fernando Llorente could have wrapped things up for Spurs two minutes from time but missed with just Burki to beat.
