Liverpool threw away a 3-0 lead

Liverpool threw away a 3-0 lead after first half goals from Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane as Sevilla fought back to claim a 3-3 draw.

The Premier League side were ahead after just 88 seconds when Georginio Wijnaldum flicked on Philippe Coutinho's corner and Firmino slotted the ball home at the back post.

Nolito and Wissam Ben Yedder came close to levelling matters for the hosts, only for Liverpool to double their advantage from another corner in almost a carbon copy of the opener.

Coutinho's corner was headed on by Firmino and Mane's diving header at the back post gave the away side a two-goal lead with just 22 minutes played.

Jurgen Klopp's men appeared to be out of sight on the half hour mark as Firmino grabbed his second of the evening following a quick counter.

Mane's shot was parried away by Sevilla keeper Sergio Rico but the ball fell into the path of Firmino for a simple tap-in.

Liverpool held a 3-0 lead until the 51st minute when Alberto Moreno gave away a needless free kick on the edge of the area.

Ever Banega stepped up and picked out Ben Yedder, who ran from deep and headed the ball beyond Loris Karius in the Liverpool goal.

Less than 10 minutes later the La Liga outfit managed to reduce the deficit further as Moreno brought down Ben Yedder inside the penalty area.

The striker stepped up to take the spot kick himself and scored - only for the referee to force a retake due to encroachment.

Ben Yedder maintained his composure and scored with the second attempt but Liverpool then managed to hold on until the final minute of injury time, when Guido Pizarro drove the ball through a crowd of players after the Reds had failed to clear a late corner.

Liverpool remain as the Group E leaders but they only hold a one point advantage over Sevilla and need a point from their final game against Spartak Moscow to qualify for the knockout stage.
