Champions League - Bayern hit with partial stadium ban for homophobic banner
Allianz Arena
Bayern Munich have been hit with a partial stadium ban for their Champions League quarter-final against Manchester United due to a homophobic banner shown by supporters.
The banner in question – which referenced a ‘Gay Gunners’ banner which hangs in Emirates Stadium and pictured Mesut Ozil – was spotted in the crowd during Bayern's last-16 second leg match against the London club .
UEFA’s control and disciplinary body has now ordered that the section of the Allianz Arena in which the banner was displayed must be closed for the second leg against Manchester United.
Bayern have also been fined €10,000 (£8,350) by the governing body.
A statement said that as a result of: "Bayern supporters … displaying of an illicit banner, the UEFA control and disciplinary body has decided to order the partial closure of the [stadium] in particular, the closure of sector 124 for Bayern's next UEFA competition home match, namely their UEFA Champions League quarter-final second leg against Manchester United on April 9."
