Premier League - Blunder ref Marriner to officiate on Saturday

Andre Marriner, the referee who sent off Arsenal's Kieran Gibbs for a handball by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, will officiate the Southampton v Newcastle contest this weekend.
Marriner wrongly sent off Gibbs for deliberate handball instead of Oxlade-Chamberlain in Arsenal's defeat at Chelsea on Saturday, despite numerous protests from the Gunners including 'The Ox' himself coming clean and confessing that it was he who handled the ball.
The referee, who was in charge of last year's FA Cup final, apologised to the Gunners after the game but the error has not seen him dropped for the coming weekend's fixtures, when the Premier League announced its match officials list on Monday.
Arsenal are likely to appeal against the dismissal on the grounds of mistaken identity and, although the one-match ban will be transferred to Oxlade-Chamberlain, there has been some suggestion the Gunners will then appeal the suspension as the shot appeared to be going wide, and that therefore a goalscoring opportunity was not denied.
