Premier League - Hull City edge closer to safety with win over West Brom

Shane Long returned to haunt his old club as Hull City beat West Bromwich Albion 2-0 at the KC Stadium.

The striker won a soft penalty which Nikica Jelavic took - Ben Foster saved but Liam Rosenior headed in the rebound.

Long then volleyed in from close range before half-time following a corner.

Stephane Sessegnon and Graeme Dorrans went close for the Baggies in the first half, while David Meyler failed to find the target with a header from five yards.

Steve Bruce’s side had the better chances after the break with Jelavic’s volley finding the side netting and Long rattling the post with a curling effort.

Substitute Saido Berahino had a half chance late-on for the Baggies, who have won just two of their last 20 league games.

The defeat sees them remain three points off the drop zone while the Tigers climb to 12th place.

MAN OF THE MATCH

Shane Long (Hull City): He may have dived to win a penalty but he kept his cool to score Hull’s second. The striker hit the post with a curling effort and his runs caused the Baggies plenty of problems.
