EPL: Chelsea v Man City preview

Chelsea v Man City preview

Two of the top three will go head-to-head at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening with Chelsea playing host to Manchester City.

The Blues are currently third in the standings, three points off the table topping Citizens, and they have recovered well from their 3-2 home defeat to Burnley on the opening day of the season.

Indeed Antonio Conte's men have won 10 of their last 12 top-flight games and they also did the double over the Citizens last term, following up a 3-1 victory at the Etihad Stadium with a 2-1 success in West London.

Chelsea also secured a 2-1 away success against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday, although Conte is unhappy that the Blues have to play so soon after returning from the Spanish capital.

That quick turnaround could lead the Italian to make changes to his starting line-up, although Eden Hazard is pushing for his first league start of the campaign after impressing against Atleti.

David Luiz remains suspended following his sending off against Arsenal, while summer signing Danny Drinkwater is out with a calf injury.

Manchester City will head into the match on a seven-game winning run in all competitions and they have scored a staggering 26 goals during that time.

Pep Guardiola's side won their last away match in the Premier League 6-0 against Watford, while their last away defeat in the top-flight came at Stamford Bridge in April.

However, the Citizens will have to do without Sergio Aguero for Saturday’s match, as he suffered broken ribs in a car accident on Thursday, while Benjamin Mendy is sidelined with a knee injury and Vincent Kompany remains absent with a calf complaint.
