C/CUP: Tottenham Hotspur 2-3 West Ham

Andre Ayew scored twice for West Ham

West Ham produced a stunning comeback as they beat Tottenham 3-2 to reach the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.

Slaven Bilic’s side had been outclassed in the first half at Wembley and looked down and out when they trailed 2-0 at the break.

But three goals in 15 second-half minutes turned the game on its head before the Hammers held on to record a famous victory.

Spurs made the perfect start to the match, taking the lead in the sixth minute when a swift counter-attack finished with Son Heung-min finding Moussa Sissoko who fired a 15-yard shot past Adrian.

The home team went close to doubling their lead in the 20th minute when Adrian saved Dele Alli’s header as the Hammers struggled to get a foothold in the match.

Bilic’s side offered very little in the first half and Spurs added a second goal in the 38th minute when Alli’s shot deflected off Declan Rice’s head on its way into the net.

West Ham showed no signs of getting back into the match until, completely out of the blue, Andre Ayew halved the deficit in the 55th minute, firing home after Edimilson Fernandes’ initial shot had been parried by Michel Vorm.

Incredibly the visitors scored again five minutes later when Manuel Lanzini crossed into the six-yard area and Ayew turned the ball into the roof of the net.

And the comeback was complete in the 70th minute when Angelo Ogbonna headed Lanzini’s corner home.

Spurs pressed for an equaliser but the Hammers held on to seal their place in the last eight.
