Chris Wood headed a late equaliser

Chris Wood headed a late equaliser as Burnley salvaged a 1-1 draw at home to 10-man West Ham.

The hosts named the same starting XI that began the 1-0 win at Everton last time out while the Hammers made two changes, with Manuel Lanzini and Marko Arnautovic earning starts in place of Mark Noble and Andre Ayew.

Burnley made a bright start, but eight minutes in it was home keeper Nick Pope who was tested by a long-range effort from Michail Antonio.

Scott Arfield tried his luck from distance a minute later, but his weak effort failed to trouble Joe Hart, who then collected a Wood header with ease.

The visitors hit the front with 18 minutes on the clock as a long Hart punt forward caught out the home defence and Antonio pounced to round Pope and slot home with his right foot.

However, the Irons were reduced to 10 men just before the half-hour mark as Andy Carroll was shown two yellow cards in the space of two minutes and sent packing.

Wood went down looking for a penalty as the home side looked to take advantage of their extra man, but referee Stuart Attwell waved play on.

Both sides made changes at the interval while three minutes into the second half Antonio threatened to double the lead.

Shortly before the hour mark he was again the dangerman, with his effort forcing a good save from Pope diving away to his right.

The hosts responded with sub Johann Berg Gudmundsson striking the woodwork from distance before Hart saw the loose ball spin back into his grasp.

Burnley finally found an equaliser five minutes from time as Gudmundsson crossed from the right and Wood rose highest to plant a header just inside the far post.
