EPL: Burnley 2-0 Swansea City

Ashley Barnes scores for Burnley

Burnley made it three Premier League wins in a row as they eased to a 2-0 victory against a Swansea side devoid of confidence.

The visitors’ first shot on target came in stoppage time and they look set for a long battle against relegation.

In contrast, the Clarets are on a high and they went close to taking an early lead when defender Ben Mee glanced a header wide, while at the other end Matt Lowton nearly smashed the ball into his own net.

As Burnley began to get on top Alfie Mawson blocked a goalbound effort before Lukasz Fabianski parried Ashley Barnes’ header.

Sean Dyche’s side deservedly went ahead just before the half-hour mark when former Swansea player Jack Cork finished off a great move involving Barnes and Robbie Brady by planting a six-yard header past Fabianski.

It was 2-0 to the home side five minutes before the interval when Barnes hammered home a piledriver from the edge of the penalty area.

On the stroke of half time Paul Clement’s team went close to halving the deficit when James Tarkowski did well to get in the way of Martin Olsson's shot.

The Clarets continued to be in the ascendancy after the break and Fabianski had to be alert to deny Jeff Hendrick while at the other end substitute Wilfried Bony fired wide from a good position.

The introduction of Bony livened the Swans up but they still struggled to create many clear-cut chances as Burnley cruised through the second half.

Renato Sanches wasted several presentable openings for the visitors whose afternoon managed to get even worse in the closing stages when Tammy Abraham had to be stretchered off the pitch after appearing to aggravate a back injury.
