Alvaro Morata celebrates scoring the opener
Striker Alvaro Morata headed home the only goal of the game as Chelsea earned a 1-0 victory at home to Manchester United.
Blues head coach Antonio Conte welcomed back key midfielder N'Golo Kante after a hamstring injury, while a defensive re-jig saw Andreas Christensen recalled at the expense of David Luiz.
United named the same starting XI which began the 1-0 win at home to Tottenham last time out in the league, with Nemanja Matic facing his former club.
The returning Kante tested David de Gea with a long-range effort within a couple of minutes of play, before the Blues had a goal ruled out for a push on Phil Jones.
Marcus Rashford then headed over from an Ashley Young cross when he should have done better, while at the other end Tiemoue Bakayoko shot high and wide from 12 yards out after being left unmarked.
Sixteen minutes in Thibaut Courtois had to get down smartly to keep out a Romelu Lukaku drive from 20 yards, before De Gea kept out a piledriver from Eden Hazard and Cesc Fabregas headed the rebound into the sidenetting.
Five minutes before the break Christensen arrived to head over from a corner, as the first half fizzled out to a goalless conclusion.
The second half started in competitive fashion, with Hazard firing straight at De Gea from ten yards out in the middle of the area.
However, Morata made no such mistake ten minutes in as he rose unmarked to power his header into the corner of the net from a Cesar Azpilicueta ball in from the right channel.
With the boost of the opening goal the hosts enjoyed the better of the exchanges in the next 15 minutes or so, with Fabregas dictating play from the centre of the park.
Bakayoko broke through only to shoot well wide as the Blues went in search of a second goal, with United making three changes in a bid to get back into the game.
Rashford flashed an effort narrowly wide, before Courtois preserved the three points with a late save to deny fellow Belgian Marouane Fellaini.
