EPL: Huddersfield Town 1-0 West Brom

David Wagner manager of Huddersfield Town celebrates with his players
Ten-man Huddersfield Town held on to beat West Brom 1-0 in a tight match at the John Smith’s Stadium.
Rajiv van La Parra’s brilliant goal settled the match but the Terriers had to play for over 30 minutes with 10 men after Christopher Schindler was sent off for a second bookable offence.
Town created the first opening of the game but Schindler scooped his effort over the bar while at the other Gareth Barry was unable to keep his effort down.
Ben Foster then saved Tom Ince’s 20-yard drive as the Terriers edged the opening stages while, when the Baggies burst forward, Schindler’s last-ditch tackle stopped Jay Rodriguez getting in a shot.
The first half was low on quality but high on endeavour and Ince fired another effort over the bar after good work by Aaron Mooy while Jonas Lossi’s only first-half save of note came in the 40th minute when he denied Rodriguez.
Town took the lead just before the interval with a superb, curling 25-yard effort by Van La Parra which was too good for Foster.
However, in the 57th minute, Schindler was shown a second yellow card after clattering into Ahmed Hegazi.
Baggies boss Tony Pulis made three substitutions on the hour mark in an attempt to put some pressure on the home team who defended resolutely, with Jake Livermore having a fierce effort charged down.
Albion substitute Salomon Rondon headed narrowly wide as Albion piled on the pressure in the closing stages while Rodriguez miscued an ambitious 25-yard shot wide.
In the last few minutes, Lossi made fine saves to deny James McClean and Matty Phillips as David Wagner’s side hung on to clinch three vital points.
