EPL: Swansea City 1-0 West Brom

Wilfried Bony winner sparks Liberty Stadium eruption

Wilfried Bony's late winner gave Swansea a crucial victory against fellow strugglers West Brom at the Liberty Stadium.

The decisive goal from Bony came with nine minuets remaining and also gave the striker his second goal in two matches, something he hasn't managed since 2014.

The ball came in via an in-swinging corner that reached the back post, a scramble ensued but then the ball broke to Bony who, from six yards out, lashed the ball home.

West Brom almost replied moments after Swansea had taken the lead but Salomon Rondon headed agonisingly over the bar from close range.

Swansea should have doubled the lead in injury-time when Tammy Abraham broke through clear on goal from the halfway line. He raced towards goal and had time to compose himself to finish and his lifted ball over Ben Foster went wide.

The hectic last quarter of the game was a marked difference to the rest of the match which constantly struggled to get going.

Any notable efforts fell to the home side, firstly on 38 minutes when Swansea had a free-kick that clattered the far post after coming off Jake Livermore's head.

Moments later Alfie Mawson header over from eight yards out while Bony had a good effort 10 minutes into the second half but his fine effort from 30 yards went just wide of the post.
